Moises Caicedo had a debut to forget for Chelsea, having given away a penalty in a 3-1 defeat to West ham.

The Ecuador international became the most expensive player in the history of the Premier League after completing a £115 million move to the Blues.

The former Brighton midfielder looked to be joining Liverpool at one point after a fee was agreed but only had eyes for Chelsea.

The 21-year-old started on the bench in Chelsea's second game of the season and came on for Ben Chilwell on the hour mark.

But he got off to the worst possible start, clumsily bringing down Emerson Palmieri with a lazy leg left out inside the area.

The referee had no choice but to point to the spot and Lucas Paqueta sealed the win for the Hammers in stoppage time.

Nayef Aguerd had opened the scoring from a James Ward-Prowse corner before seeing red for two yellow card offences.

Carney Chukwuemeka had equalised with his first ever career goal before Michail Antonio smashed in a second for the Europa Conference League winners.

Despite a mammoth spending spree, Chelsea are still in search of their first win of the season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Caicedo was the second player to concede a penalty in the game at the London Stadium. Tomas Soucek fouled Raheem Sterling just on the line in the first half and allowed Enzo Fernandez the chance to open his account from 12 yards.

However, the Argentine saw his effort saved by Alphonse Areola, who guessed right.

Caicedo had been an absolute phenomenon at Brighton, hence his big move to Chelsea - but he was panned by fans for a shocker of a cameo.

One Liverpool fan wrote: "I'm so glad we signed Wataru Endo instead of Moises Caicedo he's clearly a much better player and cost £100m less."

A second said: "That Moises Caicedo fella had a Jonathan Woodgate like debut."

A third added: "Chelsea signed Moises Caicedo for £115m just for him to concede a penalty on his debut."

Another Liverpool supporter weighed in, writing: "Fernandez: Missed a penalty. Caicedo: Conceded a penalty. Lavia: Sitting at home. I adore this game."

A fourth lapped it up, commenting: "CAICEDO COST £115M AND HE CONCEDED A PENALTY HAHAHAHA."

A fifth concurred: "Enzo missed a penalty, Caicedo gave away a penalty and Lavia can’t even make the squad."

In 37 minutes of action, Caicedo lost possession eight times, committed two fouls and gave away the penalty in a poor start to life at Chelsea.
