Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca reportedly wants to sign a forgotten Chelsea star whom he previously worked with at Stamford Bridge.
Maresca’s reign as City boss got off to a winning start against Marco Rose’s Bournemouth on Sunday (August 23), with Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol’s late strikes cancelling out Marcus Tavernier’s first-half goal to hand the home side a 2-1 win.
City were far from at their best as Maresca named six defenders in his starting XI after the departure of midfielder Rodri, while Spurs targets Omar Marmoush and Savinho did not feature despite the former being named as a substitute.
City’s record signing Elliot Anderson started alongside Nico O’Reilly in midfield and looks set to be joined by Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi in the coming days after City reached an £86million agreement with Lille.

Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has also moved on this summer, joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah for £52million, with Maresca keen to replace him by signing Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez before the September 1 deadline.
Enzo Maresca wants to sign Chelsea forward
However, the Italian also wants to bolster City’s attack this summer, with TEAMtalk reporting that the former Chelsea boss wants to link up with Spanish forward Marc Guiu at the Etihad this season.
Journalist Graeme Bailey claims: “Guiu is one of a number of Chelsea players City are monitoring heading into the final week of the window. Sources have already confirmed their interest in Enzo Fernandez and Malo Gusto, with the three players now among those being assessed by the Premier League champions.
“Guiu worked well under Maresca at Chelsea, and we understand that relationship is one reason City have explored the move.
“There is also a belief within the club that the 20-year-old could develop into a successful understudy to Erling Haaland, giving City another young option capable of providing depth in the central striker role.
“The 20-year-old has a number of alternatives, however, and we can reveal that Napoli have also made contact, while RB Leipzig have also looked at the possibility of bringing him in as they assess their own attacking options."
Guiu, who came through the ranks at Barcelona’s La Masia academy, joined Chelsea during Maresca’s reign but has since struggled to nail down a spot in the Blues’ starting XI, making just 29 appearances for the side in over two seasons, with seven of these coming in the Conference League.
The 20-year-old has yet to score a single Premier League goal for the Stamford Bridge club and appears way down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso.
Guiu was loaned to Sunderland at the start of the 2025/26 campaign, only to be recalled after making just three appearances for the Black Cats due to the Blues suffering an injury crisis up front.
The forward is under contract at Chelsea until 2029.
