Chelsea looking to sell three players including one from January splurge

Chelsea could be in for a busy January transfer window

Chelsea are reportedly ready to sell three players in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Stamford Bridge club have had a disastrous start to the 23/24 season as they currently sit 12th in the Premier League table.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino spent big in the summer to bring in the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia but has so far failed to bring the best out of his players.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, it has been reported that Chelsea could sell as many as three players to fund moves for new signings.

According to ESPN, winger Noni Madueke, who only joined in January 2023, could be sold in the new year.

Madueke joined the Blues from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven but has so far failed to nail down a regular spot in the Chelsea side.

It is believed that Chelsea could be open to a loan move for the forward.

Aside from Madueke, the future of Trevoh Chalobah is also up in the air.

The likes of Bayern Munich and AS Roma have been linked with a move for the defender, who has struggled for game time under Pochettino due to injury.

Another defender in the shape of Ian Maatsen could also be offloaded during the winter transfer window.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley tried to sign the Dutchman in the summer but failed to do so.

So far this season, Maatsen has only managed 130 minutes of football in the Premier League across nine appearances.

It has been claimed that German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are keen on bringing Maatsen to the club.

Speaking about the transfer window, Pochettino hinted the club could be active.

He said: “Football is about scoring goals and we were not clinical in front of goal. I'm really, really disappointed. We didn't get the point we deserved. I think we were better but we didn't get what we wanted.

“This was a game to play and to win. It's a problem we need to check. We need to analyse the reality. We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”
