An emotional Victor Osimhen was in tears ahead of Galatasaray's Champions League round of 16 clash against Liverpool.
On Tuesday night, just moments before kick-off at Rams Park, a group of Galatasaray fans unveiled a giant banner featuring a portrait of Osimhen and his late mother, as well as the motto: "We are family and family is everything".
The 27-year-old was visibly emotional as he lined up alongside teammates Mario Lemina and Gabriel Sara, and could be seen being comforted by midfielder Lucas Torreira before shaking hands with the opposition.
Last year, the Nigerian striker opened up about losing his mother.

“My mother passed away at a very young age," he told UEFA. "My older brother called from the village, he said that my mother had slept and never woke up. When she left, it was really tough for the family."
"My dad has to go out and look for a job, to make sure that we are fed every day," he added. "Football was the only escape route for me and my family to get out of poverty.”
Growing up, Osimhen and his six siblings lived in a one-room apartment in Olusosun, a small town in Lagos, Nigeria. The area sat next to a large rubbish dump.
As his dad didn’t bring in enough money to pay rent, Osimhen searched the nearby landfill site for football boots.
“I remember one night when I was about 12, the landlord had enough. He cut off the power to our apartment," he told The Players’ Tribune. “We were sitting in the dark in one room — all seven of us — no TV. Nothing.
“I went outside and I sat down next to this gutter — literally, a gutter — and I started crying. I looked up into the sky and I asked God, ‘What kind of life is this for a child?'”
Osimhen says he sold bottles of water to people at traffic lights and took on dangerous work around his hometown, including going down wells.
He also recalled going on a Nigerian quiz show, where he won the equivalent of £5 on live TV.
“That was the most money I ever held in my hands before. If there was money to be made, I was there," he said. “Everything I earned, I gave to my siblings to buy food and pay the rent."
Osimhen added: “Most nights, I actually slept in the church. Our house barely had a roof. It was starting to cave in.”
