Hector Bellerin's Response to Piers Morgan Asking Donald Trump to Manage Arsenal

The Arsenal legend quickly shared his thoughts on Trump's potential appointment at the Emirates.

Former Arsenal star Hector Bellerin wasn't afraid to share his feelings about Piers Morgan's request for Donald Trump to take over as the club's manager.

Throughout his career in the media, Morgan has been outspoken both on his support of Arsenal and of US President Trump.

Therefore, when he had the chance to interview Trump back in January 2018 as Arsenal were facing a difficult spell under former manager Arsene Wenger, the journalist decided to bring up his beloved club.

Morgan claimed that he wanted Wenger to leave the club, frustrated by the recent struggles to make it into the top four and clearly was at his wit's end as he asked Trump if he would be interested in being Arsenal's next manager.

But the request clearly didn't go down well in the Arsenal dressing room, as Bellerin quickly took to social media to share his thoughts on the Trump leading the club.

After 22-years in the Arsenal dugout, Premier League legend Wenger left the club at the end of the 2017-18 season, with Unai Emery appointed as the Frenchman's successor in May.

Emery led the club for 18 months before poor form saw him sacked and replaced by current boss Mikel Arteta, who has led the club for several Premier League title races.

But if Morgan had got his way, it would have instead been Trump leading Arsenal in the post Wenger era.

British broadcaster got his wish at the end of the 2017-18 season when the French manager called time on his 22-year tenure.

"We've been going through a rough patch for a long period of time. People think it's time for a change of leadership at my club," Morgan told Trump in the 2018 interview.

"I have something for you. This is an Arsenal shirt, Mr President. POTUS 45, Trump 45. We're looking for a new leader with an attacking philosophy who believes in a strong defensive wall and believes in winning at all costs and only wants big trophies."

Trump, responding to the gift of the Arsenal shirt, said: "Well, I think that's beautiful, and I do have a son who loves this sport. It's growing very rapidly in the United States."

However, when asked if he was even an Arsenal fan, the American president quickly shut down Morgan's dreams, saying: "Not particularly no. But I have a friend who owns Manchester United, so I know exactly what I'm gonna do."

At the time of the interview, Bellerin was in the middle of his nine-year spell at Arsenal and he decided to make his feelings towards Morgan's request public, sharing a clip of the exchange on social media.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: "Hope he said no."

The Spaniard played for three more years at the Emirates before leaving for La Liga club Real Betis.

The 30-year-old made 239 appearances during his time in North London, posting nine goals and 29 assists. He won the FA Cup three times, including in 2020 under Arteta.
