Harry Kane has a cut-price release clause in his Bayern Munich contract that could open the door to a Premier League return, according to reports.

Many presumed the 31-year-old striker had all but ended his chance of surpassing Alan Shearer's Premier League goal record when he signed for Bayern in August 2023 for a reported £100 million.

Kane, who penned a four-year deal at the Allianz, went on to net 44 goals in 45 games during a trophyless campaign and is currently leading the Bundesliga scoring charts.

But even after such a prolific start to life in Germany, something that continues to be brought up in conversation is the England captain being just 47 goals behind Shearer and his long-standing record.

Speaking in his Bayern unveiling, Kane even mentioned the record, saying: “People will talk about the record and Shearer, but I've got plenty of football left in my career."

He added: "For now, it's about trying to achieve things here and trying to push myself and the team to try and reach new levels with this club. That's all my focus is on right now.”

Clearly, Kane has not given up on breaking Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goalscoring haul just yet.

And in a report from German publication Bild, it has emerged that he could have triggered a release clause in the January window that would have allowed him to leave Bayern for around £67 million.

Of course, that deadline has passed but it has been claimed that the release clause will be valid again next winter. In fact, if Kane were to trigger the clause then he could move to another club for just £54 million.

Despite the above claims, Kane has settled in the country with his young family and is currently happy in Germany.

On the subject of the Premier League goalscoring record, Shearer gave his take on whether Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will beat his 26-goal tally.

"There's no doubt that if Erling Haaland stays here for the next five or six years, the way he's going, then he will absolutely break it," Shearer told Betfair.

"We'll have to wait and see though; we don't know what's going to happen with Man City and the charges, we don't know what's going to happen with Pep Guardiola and his time at the club.

"They are big questions, not only for the football club and the manager but also for the players that are at the club too. But, if Haaland stays in the Premier League then absolutely, he'll break my record."
