Deadpool vs Wolverine could become real after Hugh Jackman reveals Championship investment talks

Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman is in talks to invest in Championship club Norwich City.

Jackman is one of the most famous actors in the world and a boyhood Norwich fan, with his mother originally from the East Anglian city. He even went to watch them play as a child.

The Wolverine star is also a close friend of Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds and has now sent his Deadpool rival a warning that they could soon become enemies in the Championship.

Hugh Jackman sends Ryan Reynolds message

Jackman was previously offered the chance to become a minority investor in Norwich City back in 2010, but turned down the opportunity because he did not feel emotionally invested enough in the club.

It appears those feelings have changed, though, partly through his close friendship with Reynolds, who bought Wrexham alongside Rob McElhenney when the club was still in the National League in 2021.

The Red Dragons have enjoyed a remarkable rise through the leagues under the Hollywood pair, with Jackman even in attendance when Wrexham lost 5-3 to MK Dons in their first match back in the Football League in 2023.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Australian was asked whether he had any plans to follow in Reynolds' footsteps and invest in Norwich.

"I'm very, very interested – and talking about it right now," he revealed. "You're the first one to know that. There's a little exclusive.

"Good on Ryan, you do your thing. I'm all about the Canaries."

How much of Norwich will Hugh Jackman own?

It is not yet clear how much Jackman will invest in Norwich, or what percentage of the football club he would receive in return.

The Canaries are currently owned by American businessman Mark Attanasio, who holds an 85 per cent stake in the club. Attanasio also owns Major League Baseball team the Milwaukee Brewers.

Celebrity supporters Delia Smith and Michael Wynn-Jones still retain a 10 per cent stake after their 28 years of active leadership came to an end in 2024, while the remaining five per cent is held by independent fans and individual investors.

Reynolds and McElhenney are majority owners of Wrexham, while NFL legend Tom Brady is a minority co-owner of Birmingham City. Snoop Dogg recently acquired a minority stake in Swansea City, while Ed Sheeran owns a minority stake in Ipswich Town, Norwich's fierce rivals.

Why does Hugh Jackman support Norwich?

After revealing his desire to invest in Norwich City, the Hollywood superstar also explained how he came to support the club as a child.

"When I was in Australia, growing up, I had English parents who emigrated to Australia," he told talkSPORT.

"We used to watch the FA Cup. It was the only thing we were allowed to stay up for, 3 o'clock in the morning. We had to go to bed first, and we were woken up to watch it. So I was seeing all these teams, Arsenal and all these teams, and I was like, 'I've got to pick a team'.

"I said, 'Dad, where are you from?' He said, 'London'. I said, 'So I'll go for London?' He goes, 'No, there's a bunch of teams in London'. I said, 'Mum, where are you from?' She went, 'Norwich'.

"I went, 'Is there a football team in Norwich?' She went, 'Yep'. I said, 'That's my team'."
