Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City set to battle it out for 'intelligent' Golden Boy nominee who cost just £4m

Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City set to battle it out for 'intelligent' Golden Boy nominee who cost just £4m

Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City are reportedly keen on signing a Golden Boy nominee.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are all reportedly interested in signing Leeds starlet Wilfried Gnonto, according to a new report.

Gnonto signed for Leeds from Swiss side FC Zurich last summer on deadline day, and played at senior level for Italy before making his debut for Jesse Marsch's side.

He has started all bar two of the side's Premier League matches since the World Cup, and has registered two goals and three assists.

The 19-year-old has had a superb start to life in England, with his lightning pace, exceptional dribbling ability and strength making him a standout player for the Whites this term.

Gnonto provided an assist during Leeds' 3-2 win over Wolves on Saturday - their second victory in four league games under new boss Javi Gracia.

And now it is claimed that several clubs want to sign him this summer.

Arsenal, City keen on Gnonto

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal, City and Chelsea are all considering launching a bid for Gnonto this summer, especially if Leeds get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the campaign.

The Italian was signed by Leeds for around £4 million last summer, and would be in line for a major profit on the player if a sale does take place this summer.

He was shortlisted for the 2022 Golden Boy award, being named as one of the final 20 players eligible to win it. The award was won by Barcelona midfielder Gavi.

Speaking after Gnonto scored two goals in an FA Cup third round win over Cardiff in January, his former boss Marsch said (quotes via Belfast Telegraph): "Willy is obviously in a good way, a really good way.

"He's a very intelligent, humble, grounded, a real human being, who wants to improve, wants to work hard and believes in the process we've created for him and the group."
