Emi Martinez sparks chaotic scenes outside Emirates after Arsenal vs Chelsea as footage emerges

Fans outside the Emirates were taken by surprise on Sunday evening when Emi Martinez made an unexpected appearance following Arsenal's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

Martinez, who spent a decade at Arsenal before joining Aston Villa in 2020, signed for Chelsea at the end of last month in a deal worth £7.5 million.

The 34-year-old started for Xabi Alonso's side in their clash against his former club but his performance was a tad underwhelming. He should have done better for Kai Havertz's equaliser, when he was beaten at the near post.

"I do think Emi Martinez has to save that," said Gary Neville on commentary.

"Chelsea have brought him in as a big personality goalkeeper, the big Argentine. But I do think he has to save that, he’s slow to go down and will be disappointed given the level he’s been playing at."

Jamie Carragher also claimed Martinez is not as sharp as he once was but the Argentine did go on to make eight saves in the game, the most from a Chelsea goalkeeper at the Emirates since Thibaut Courtois in 2018.

After the full-time whistle, Martinez could be seen walking amongst hundreds of Arsenal supporters as he seemingly made his way home, a decision that sparked chaotic scenes outside the Emirates.

As you can see from the footage below, the Argentine was met with chants of: "Emi, what's the score?" and other unpleasantries.

Many fans were baffled by Martinez's decision to walk home, with one saying: "This is crazy honestly."

A second commented: "Not sure that’s the safest route home," and a third wrote: "He won a cup with us, he deserves a bit of respect. I’m sure if we wanted him to stay, he would of."

A fourth said: "Poor Emi, he actually looks frightened," and a fifth added: "Performative stuff from the goalkeeper. Why on earth is he walking out the stadium like that and not getting on the team coach?"

Arsenal fans aimed brutal chant at Morgan Rogers

After being replaced by Danny Welbeck in the 87th minute, Morgan Rogers had to walk around the Emirates pitch to get to the subs bench, which meant walking past thousands of disgruntled Arsenal fans.

In fact, as he walked on the touchline, the former Aston Villa man was met with the chant: "You should have signed for a big club".

Arsenal were linked with a big-money move for the player this summer but after weeks of speculation, the 24-year-old signed for Chelsea in a British record deal worth £117 million.
