Tyson Fury has made a huge announcement about his boxing career after retiring from the sport following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury called time on his legendary career after losing to Usyk in what was their second meeting following their undisputed clash in May 2024.

The self-proclaimed 'Gypsy King' surrendered his WBC belt in his first defeat to Usyk, who successfully defended his WBA (super), WBC, WBO and The Ring titles in their rematch in December 2024.

Not for the first time in his career, Fury retired as he sat out the entirety of 2025.

But New Year, new Fury.

He has taken to social media to confirm his comeback, having released a video of him training ahead of his ring return.

The 37-year-old wrote: "2026 is that year. Return of the Mac. Been away for a while but I'm back now, 37 years old and still punching. Nothing better to do than punch men in the face & get paid for it."

Who will Tyson Fury fight?

Fury won 34 fights, including two big wins over Deontay Wilder, before losing back-to-back world championship contests to Usyk.

A super-fight against Anthony Joshua, who returned to action with a victory over Jake Paul last month, has been reported, with his promoter, Frank Warren, talking up a potential all-British showdown.

Warren was asked about a report claiming a deal is in place for Fury and Joshua to finally fight each other this year.

Speaking before Joshua's car crash in Nigeria that took the lives of his two close friends, the veteran promoter said: "Well, they're pretty well informed at times. I'm not making any comment on it, but they are very, very well informed, so let's hope that's going to be the case.

"It's a massive fight, and one that has taken a long time to get together. Hopefully that’s going to be the case and people are going to get what they wish for next year, which is these two guys in the ring facing each other.

"It’s been one of the biggest modern-day rivalries in British and probably world boxing, and it would be great if it's on."

But given Fury has been out of the ring for over a year, a tune-up fight is expected before he potentially meets Joshua.

A bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov, who beat Dave Allen in his last appearance, has been mooted.

Makhmudov was a big prospect until he was derailed by Agit Kabayel in December 2023. The towering Russian fighter also suffered a defeat to Guido Vianello, before recording victories over Ricardo Brown and the aforementioned Allen.

A potential fight against Makhmudov would serve as a tune-up before a showdown against the likes of Joshua or Usyk.
