WWE Fans Think John Cena Has ‘Confirmed’ His Final Ever Opponent

John Cena dropped a huge hint on his Instagram page, with many believing it to be confirmation of his last opponent.

John Cena's latest post on Instagram has fans convinced that it is a hint over his final ever WWE opponent.

Cena, arguably the greatest WWE superstar of all time, is approaching the end of his decorated career in between the ropes - with just a handful of appearances remaining.

Cena embarked on a retirement tour in 2025 and made history by capturing a record-breaking 17th world title at WrestleMania 41 when he defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event in Las Vegas.

The 48-year-old's last match has been confirmed to take place a special edition of Saturday Night's Main Event in Washington, D.C, on December 13 - with huge demand for tickets at the Capital One Arena.

Ever since the farewell tour began, there has been plenty of speculation about who will have the ultimate honour of facing Cena in his final ever bout.

Widespread reports claimed that world heavyweight champion Gunther was selected to be Cena's last rival as far back as July.

The Austrian has not been seen on WWE television since his defeat to CM Punk at SummerSlam in August but in recent times WWE shared cryptic footage of someone walking in suit pants and smart shoes.

On his Instagram, where he regularly posts pictures without any caption of explanation, Cena shared a screenshot from the vignette - with many taking it as confirmation that he will face Gunther.

One fan wrote on Instagram: "You’re not helping the matter dude. Just made us all more confused."

A second commented: "Gunther coming back so you pass the torch to him at SNME."

A third said: "Broo it's gunther."

A fourth person commented: "Idk what's John always post about,, but I like it anyways."

Cena has never faced Gunther in a one-on-one battle and there are claims online that the Ring General is poised to win a tournament for the right to send the WWE icon into retirement.

In his retirement run, Cena has squared off against opponents old and new, including Rhodes, Randy Orton, R-Truth, CM Punk, Logan Paul, Sami Zayn, Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles, who Cena personally requested to face at Crown Jewel.

Cena's retirement statement

For his penultimate match at Survivor Series, he is rumoured to be taking on Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship - the only title he has never won in his glittering WWE career.

He will still appear on Raw in his hometown of Boston on November 10 - as well as a show in Madison Square Garden, New York a week later.

Cena has confirmed that he will not wrestle anymore after his last dance and wrote a statement on X, which read: "Despite any speculation or rumours, on July 6, 2024 I announced I would retire from WWE in ring participation.

"I am far from perfect but strive to be a person whose word has value. 12/13/25 will be my final match.

"I am beyond grateful for every moment WWE has given me. I am excited for 12/13 & look forward to seeing all of you one last time."
