Cody Rhodes reveals item even the biggest WWE superstars have to pay for themselves at every event

Cody Rhodes opened up on what WWE superstars have to pay for outside of their salary.

WWE undisputed champion Cody Rhodes has revealed the surprise item superstars must pay for.

Having left WWE in 2016 after a 10-year stint, Rhodes made a stunning return at WrestleMania 38 when he was unannounced opponent against Seth Rollins.

He was immediately presented as a top star and has filled the void left by John Cena as he winds down his career and enjoys huge success in Hollywood.

Naturally Rhodes, who finally realised his dream of becoming WWE champ when he dethroned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 41, is one of the highest-paid superstars on the roster.

The American Nightmare has his own tour bus which he used to travel to shows - and it was even used as a weapon by The Rock during a violent attack he administered in the build-up to WrestleMania.

Many had assumed top talents like Cena, Reigns and Rollins were given their own buses as a perk.

However, in an exclusive interview, Rhodes told SPORTbible that it is not the case and he paid for the bus out of his own pocket after bagging a lucrative deal.

Still, he is quite happy to let his fellow superstars think that the bus was handed to him by the company.

Rhodes explained: "You wanna know the secret, you pay for it. I'd love to be like, 'WWE takes care of my bus, WWE takes care of the private jets'.

"Here's what it is. The money in the industry has gone way up, which is great because for a long time wrestlers had this great global penetration where we're being paid less than stars with less of a penetration.

"At this point now one of the greater hires in all of the industry was Nick Khan, who is the president of WWE and has really elevated our profile and our quality of life as wrestlers.

"So when you get these big bucks, NBA-level contracts as a WWE superstar or wrestler, you don't mind paying for your bus.

"That bus, I bought. It is mine.

"Here's the thing, wrestlers who think the company pays for my bus - I let them think that.

"This interview ruins it but it's okay. That's a whole thing, 'Oh how do you get one? He's flying private'. That's how we want to get to the show, it's easy for us."

Rhodes' wife Brandi recently gave a behind-the-scenes tour of the bus on social media, showing how the Nightmare family travel in style from town-to-town when on the road.

But the second generation wrestler wasn't best pleased with the insight his other half provided.

"There's some things on that bus that shouldn't have been seen," Rhodes added. "She went ham a little bit. Brandi gave that tour and I wasn't too keen on it, there's like an all in one shampoo and body wash or something - we should maybe put some better products but that's what we use.

"An all purpose mustard - I've ever used that before."

WWE Live returns to the UK from 4th - 6th November, in London, Nottingham and Sheffield. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.co.uk. UK fans will be able to watch all WWE programming on Netflix from January.
