Manchester United are eager to sign former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen, with Erik ten Hag's men fighting off interest from Brentford for his signature.

The Denmark international joined The Bees in the January window on a six-month deal, where he took to his Premier League return like a fish to water.

With four goals and an assist in 10 starts, Eriksen led the newly promoted side to safety, with seven wins and a draw in those appearances.

One of the losses came at the hands of Ralf Rangnick's United, but the Brentford playmaker was one of the standout performers on the Old Trafford pitch that day.

It is well known that the player is one of Ten Hag's primary targets this summer.

With four midfielders already out of the club, the Reds are in need of reinforcements in the engine room.

This is shown by the interest in the Denmark international, as well as through the near completion of a deal for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong.

Eriksen could prove to be a solid, experienced addition to a squad that has lost some key characters such as Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

He has proven that he still has the quality to compete in England's top tier following his tragic cardiac arrest on the pitch last summer during the European Championships.

United's vast interest in the player has been turned into an offer, which the player is considering alongside the others that he has received.

Although it has previously been said he would prefer to stay in London, reports have also mentioned that United are confident of convincing Eriksen of an Old Trafford move.

The club have made a formal offer to the player and are in talks with his representatives, according to David McDonnell of The Mirror.

United have told them that they are willing to hand the 30-year-old a two-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams.

This is alongside a weekly wage packet of £150,000, which is a respectable amount.

However, it is not the kinds of ridiculous wages that the United of old would give a player that probably won't be a long-term solution at the club.

The report also adds that Eriksen is waiting to see who United sign before making his decision on his future.

It is understood that he will join the Reds if they are able to clinch deals to sign De Jong and Tyrell Malacia.

Ten Hag and his team will jet off on their pre-season camp on 8 July.
