There's A "Growing Confidence" That Manchester United Will Sign Christian Eriksen

The 30-year-old is getting closer to joining United.

Christian Eriksen’s decision on his next club looks to be closer than ever as there is a growing confidence within Manchester United of getting a deal over the line, according to reports.

Manchester United’s summer drought could come to an end soon with the signing of free agent, Christian Eriksen.

In what has been thought to be a straight race between United and Brentford for the Danish midfielder’s signature in recent days, Manchester United are now confident of convincing Eriksen to make the switch North, according to Alex Crook.

Eriksen has had multiple suitors since his impressive return to the Premier League last season.

At one stage it looked like a return to Tottenham was on the cards, but Antonio Conte's men have distanced themselves from any deal earlier this week with six other Premier League clubs thought to be interested.

This is alongside interest from Ajax and an unnamed La Liga side, as reported by Tottenham correspondent, Alasdair Gold.

There were also multiple reports stating that Christian Eriksen would prefer to stay in London and play his football in the Champions League next season, but now it appears Manchester United have done enough to convince Denmark’s number 10.

Upon his return to football after suffering a cardiac arrest at the European Championship last summer, Christian Eriksen helped Brentford to a comfortable 13th placed finish in their first season back in the English top flight.

This proved to many that he still held a creative quality and could play at the top-level and in the Premier League.

Eriksen has found his form of old after an up and down stint at Inter Milan, showing his ability to dictate play from the middle and take control of games almost single-handedly.

This is something that United have seen first-hand on many occasions and a quality that Erik ten Hag will no doubt rely on should the deal get over the line.

The 30-year-old is viewed as one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets alongside Frenkie De Jong, as reported by Marcel van der Kraan earlier this week, in what will be a revamped midfield for United and a change in the style of play.

United fans will be pleased with this breakthrough in what has proven to be a disappointing window so far but wary that more has to be done.

The Dane will no doubt have one eye on the World Cup in November and it could play a factor in deciding where he plays his football next season.

Whilst Brentford would guarantee a starting place, he could find it harder at United with more competition for places so the reports of Manchester United’s growing confidence of securing his signature may come with some guarantees from Ten Hag on playing time.

Manchester United supporters will be hoping that Christian Eriksen is the first of many this summer with many positions still left to fill, especially due to the exits of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard.

There’s a lot of work to do and with pre-season starting next Monday and United’s first fixture on the 12th July where they’ll face Liverpool in Bangkok.

Write about Manchester United every now and then. Had the privilege to witness Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Lee Grant in the flesh.
