Former Manchester United Player Urges Midfielder, Who Erik Ten Hag Is A “Big Fan Of”, To Sign For The Club

Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has urged Youri Tielemans to sign for Manchester United

Tielemans, who will be out of contract with Leicester this time next year, is reportedly open to a move to United this summer. 

After spending the last three-and-a-half seasons at Leicester, Tielemans has already been heavily linked this window with fellow Premier League club Arsenal. 

However, according to a report from Alex Crook of talkSPORT, Arsenal’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has “prompted a change of heart by the Belgian international.”

As a result of this change of heart, Manchester United may now be focusing on the talented 25-year-old midfielder.

That same aforementioned report noted that new Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is a “big fan” of the midfielder.

This matches up with earlier reports from this week, with The Times reporting that Tielemans was a player of particular interest from Ten Hag.

However, it was noted that despite Ten Hag being very keen on improving his midfield, it is “unclear on how highly” he features on the new United boss’ shortlist.

The prospect of Tielemans signing for United is certainly one that the club’s former striker Louis Saha supports.

When recently speaking to BonusCodeBets, the striker who scored 42 goals for the club was quizzed on which club he would chose if he was Tielemans right now; United or Arsenal.

“I’d have to say Man United all day.” Said Saha. “Tielemans has always been linked with Man United, even when he was at Anderlecht. He’s always had that connection.”

If Tielemans was to sign for the Reds, he would become just the seventh player from Belgium to represent the club. 

Tielemans is just one of several names on Erik ten Hag’s wish list, with midfielders Christian Eriksen, and Frenkie de Jong both still on the cards.

In the case of De Jong, the deal looks more like a matter of when, not if at this stage. With Barcelona already preparing a farewell video for their Dutch midfielder.

The talented Dutchman is reportedly set to sign for United in the very near future, with fellow countryman Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia ready to join him at the club also.

It was reported earlier this week that Man United have managed to agree deals in principle for both De Jong and Malacia.

The signing of Eriksen has proven to not be as clear cut. Whilst United have reportedly made an offer of £150,000 a week to Eriksen, he has yet to make a decision on his next step. 

It is believed that Eriksen would be swayed to join United ahead of his other options if the ‘Red Devils’ are able to secure the signings of both Malacia and De Jong first.
