Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor has called for a second fight on the upcoming UFC White House card after being heavily linked with a clash against Michael Chandler.
Despite holding both the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight titles simultaneously following his win over Eddie Alvarez in November 2016, McGregor has since fallen from grace and has not won a UFC bout since January 2020.
The Irishman has also not fought since July 2021, when he sustained a broken left leg in his second defeat against Dustin Poirier.
In recent years, McGregor has dealt with several problems outside of the Octagon, including being found liable for the assault of Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel in December 2018, following a civil case heard at the High Court in Dublin in November 2024.

Hand was awarded €248,000 (£206,000) in damages. McGregor lost his civil jury appeal.
Six months before the trial, McGregor was due to fight Chandler on the UFC 303 card, but this was cancelled when the Irishman pulled out due to an injury.

In October of 2025, McGregor’s proposed return to the Octagon was delayed further due to him accepting an 18-month ban for violating the UFC’s anti-doping policy (ADP).
The 37-year-old accepted a period of ineligibility for a violation of the organisation's anti-doping protocol, with Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) taking into account his cooperation.
McGregor missed three tests – on June 13, September 19, and September 20, 2024 – with each classified as a ‘Whereabouts Failures’ by the CSAD under the UFC ADP.
CSAD reduced the usual 24-month suspension to 18 months, with the sanction running from September 20, 2025, to March 20, 2026, meaning he will be cleared to be on the UFC White House card on June 14, 2026, which so happens to be President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
It is still unclear who will fight on the White House card, but journalist Jon Anik believes it could be littered with several title fights.
Meanwhile, McGregor and Chandler have been heavily linked with finally facing each other, but it appears that the Irishman would be willing to be put on a rather unique bout against an old foe.
The 37-year-old Dubliner took to Instagram on Tuesday (January 6) and posted a video of one of his press conferences before his 2017 boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.
The caption read: “Fun times @danawhite, @ufc! @ Floyd Mayweather, when you are ready for that promised MMA bout, I am here. The White House is nice in the summer, I heard. 🏦
“Just kidding, Mike! Although 🤔… I could fight both the same night. Floyd MMA? EASY. 10 seconds.”
Of course, it is unclear if McGregor was joking or if he genuinely wants to fight two men on the same night, but he will likely want another crack at Mayweather, given the fact that he lost by TKO against the American almost nine years ago.
However, Mayweather has never fought in MMA and is unlikely to do so now that he is approaching his 49th birthday.
But if Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul can have a professional boxing bout, then nothing is out of the realm of possibility in 2026.
