Max Verstappen enters another driving competition as Disney+ lands his side quest

After expanding his racing disciplines past just Formula 1 in the last year, Max Verstappen is now taking on the 'biggest' race of his life as he joins forces with Disney Plus and Red Bull.

Max Verstappen secured his F1 future this month, signing a whopping new contract to stay at Red Bull, despite rumours of a McLaren swap deal with Oscar Piastri.

The deal keeps him at Red Bull until 2030 - or until the Dutchman's 'retirement' - putting trust in the brand to make a car worthy of his skills and hunting for a fifth championship.

Yet he's been doing more than just F1 driving recently, swapping Zandvoort for the Nürburgring and 24-hour endurance racing.

The best driver of this generation proved his worth in a Mercedes-AMG car around the German track and behind the wheel of a Super GT car, completing a wet time around the Fuji Speedway two seconds quicker than GT500 race winner Atsushi Miyake.

Now, Verstappen's next side-quest has been revealed, as he will take on 100 other drivers in a Karting exhibition on Disney+

Max vs 100: Max Verstappen returns to Karting

Announced by Disney and ESPN, Max vs 100 will be a new exhibition that will see Verstappen jump back into the Karting motorsport discipline, hosted by Red Bull.

Taking place at Silverstone, Verstappen will start 101st on the grid and will attempt to overtake 100 drivers.

The other drivers will consist of 'gaming talent, social media creators, streamers, media personalities and surprise guests from around the world,' as the F1 star will put his overtaking skills to good use.

Like many others, including Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Lando Norris, Max Verstappen grew up in professional Karting leagues, which paved his way to Formula 1.

"In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking. Of course, I spent a long period of my life go-karting, so it’s always nice to return," he said.

"It’s about understanding the grip of the go-kart. I’ve done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things.”

Verstappen will also be mic'd up, documenting his POV, while BAFTA-winning comedian Mo Gilligan will commentate.

Gilligan said, "I’m absolutely thrilled to be teaming up with Disney on this hugely ambitious project.

"Max Verstappen, 100 drivers and one massive race – this show is going to be truly spectacular. It’s fast, unpredictable and, above all, a lot of fun.

"Somehow, I’ve got the best seat in the house, and I can’t wait to take everyone watching on Disney+ along for the ride.”

The event will take place live on Disney+ on September 16, three days after the first-ever F1 race around MADRING, the new Spanish GP in Madrid.
