The USMNT will look to spring an upset when they take on the Netherlands at the Khalifa International Stadium in the World Cup round of 16.

The US finished second in Group B behind England, after drawing against the Three Lions and Wales and picking up a crucial win against Iran in their last group match.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands finished top of Group A on seven points, by virtue of beating Senegal and host nation Qatar.

Louis van Gaal’s side go into the contest as firm favourites, though the US have impressed so far in Qatar and will be bidding to qualify for only their third World Cup quarter-final in history.

Brazilian referee Sampaio is affiliated with CONMEBOL and has been a FIFA-listed official for nine years.

So far, Sampaio has refereed two World Cup group games in Qatar. He was the referee for a Group A clash between Senegal and the Netherlands which saw Van Gaal’s side run out as 2-0 winners.

Sampaio then took charge of the Group C game between Poland and Saudi Arabia.

That night Poland won 2-0 thanks to goals from Piotr Zielinski and Robert Lewandowski, who netted for the first time in a World Cup.
