It could be a busy end to the January window for promotion-chasing Wrexham after they submitted a bid for one of the Football League's most sought-after players amid talk of a move for Sidiki Cherif.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Wrexham were set to launch a record-breaking £19 million move to sign striker Cherif from Ligue 1 side Angers.
The 19-year-old, who has scored four league goals in 18 French top-flight appearances this season, would become the most expensive Championship signing of all time if Wrexham manage to strike that deal.
However, a potential transfer may prove difficult, with L'Equipe claiming Cherif is set to undergo an MRI scan after picking up a knock on his right ankle.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson recently responded to the Cherif links, saying: "There's lots of names we get linked with and some have got some truth and some of them haven't."
He added: "At this stage of the window there's inquiries, there's talks going on. Sometimes they come to fruition and sometimes they don't, that's all I can say on any transfer targets at the moment."

Amid talk of a move for Cherif, Wrexham have submitted a bid for Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn, according to Nathan Salt, who claims his versatility in forward areas appeals to the Championship club.
Keillor-Dunn is being chased by a number of clubs, including Middlesbrough, Preston and Blackburn, who all sent scouts to watch the 28-year-old in Barnsley's FA Cup clash against Liverpool.
Salt claims the offer made by Wrexham for Keillor-Dunn is "very small" in comparison to the £19 million quoted by Angers for Cherif.

As well as the previously mentioned targets, Wrexham have joined Stoke City and Derby County in the race to sign out-of-favour Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics, according to Football Insider.
Szmodics, who joined then-Premier League side Ipswich in 2024 for around £9 million, scored 33 goals across all competitions for Blackburn during the 2023-24 campaign.
But he struggled for game time last season following a number of injury problems, and scored four goals in 20 games.

The 30-year-old has admirers, though, with Wrexham willing to offer £5 million for his services as they ramp up their push for promotion. Phil Parkinson's side currently sit sixth in the Championship.
