Wrexham have announced their retained list after missing out on a spot in the Championship play-offs, with seven players leaving the club.

Phil Parkinson's men needed a win over Middlesbrough on the final day to have a chance of securing a historic fourth consecutive promotion.

However, a 2-2 draw on the final day wasn't enough as Hull City ran out 2-1 winners over Norwich City to pip them to sixth.

Failure to reach the play-offs is no slight on a Wrexham side many thought would find the Championship incredibly tough.

Every May, clubs in the Football League announce their retained list, outlining which players will be offered a new contract and who will be moving on.

Wrexham are no exception, with the club posting a statement to X on Friday afternoon confirming several exits.

Jay Rodriguez, Andy Cannon. Callum Edwards, Reuben Egan, Tom Kelly and Max Purvis will all depart upon the expiry of their contracts. Meanwhile, Issa Kabore will return to his parent club, Manchester City. Wrexham are keen to enter negotiations to sign Kabore on a permanent deal, with the 25-year-old a popular figure among supporters.

Rodriguez is the biggest profile name to leave the Racecourse Ground, having arrived from Burnley in January 2025. He's only featured seven times in the Championship this season due to an ankle injury, with his total game time amounting to only 16 minutes.

Cannon spent the second half of this season on loan with Burton Albion, in a bid to regain fitness after a serious knee injury in February 2025.

Wrexham's statement reads: "The following players, who are out of contract, will not be offered new deals. They are released with the Club’s sincere thanks for their efforts and contributions during their time at the Football Club."

Ryan Reynolds' thoughts on the season

You can't discuss Wrexham without bringing up Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

They've transformed the Welsh outfit into a global powerhouse since taking over in 2020, with Reynolds reflecting on that after the Middlesbrough match.

He said: "I am completely gutted by today’s result, but incredibly proud of our season.

"We’ve come a long way in five years and this was the best result in our 150+ year history. More to do. But for now, we have so much to be proud of, Reds."
