A new favourite has emerged in the race for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres after the bookies slashed the odds on him joining a Premier League club.
Following a dramatic final that saw Paris Saint-Germain win the Champions League for the first time, the 2024/25 season came to an end and just hours later, the transfer window opened.
In the build-up to the summer, it became clear that perhaps the biggest story of the transfer window will centre around several Premier League clubs that are looking to sign a new star striker.

Several talented strikers are expected to come to England in the coming months, including Sporting Lisbon's Gyokeres, who has been linked with several clubs after emerging as one of the most exciting players in Europe.
But it appears one side has pulled ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the Swedish international, as the bookies have suddenly slashed their odds on Liverpool to secure his signature.
Taking to social media, popular betting platform bet365 announced that they had cut the odds on Gyokeres to join Liverpool to 2/1, making them the new favourites.

Although the odds have since been altered to 3/1, the Reds remain slightly ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal, who are currently 7/2 to sign Gyokeres before the transfer window closes.
While it is believed that Liverpool are currently focusing on deals for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, recent reports have suggested that they will also look to sign a new number nine in the summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike has also been linked with a move to Anfield, but his reported £84million price tag may be enough to push Liverpool towards Gyokeres, who is reportedly available for around €65m (£54.85m).

Since arriving at Sporting from Coventry City in the summer of 2023, Gyokeres has enjoyed by far the most prolific spell of his career, scoring 97 goals and assisting 28 in just 102 appearances for the Portuguese club.
This season alone, the 26-year-old has averaged more than a goal a game with an incredible 54 goals in 52 appearances, explaining why so many clubs will be eager to bring him in this summer.
