Pep Guardiola is set to leave his position as Manchester City manager at the end of the season and a shock destination has emerged as favourite for his next move.
News broke on Monday evening during Arsenal’s crucial Premier League encounter against Burnley that Guardiola had decided to depart the club regardless of the outcome in the title race.
There has been no confirmation from Manchester City that the Catalan will be departing and he is expected to field questions on his future during City’s must-win Premier League clash against Bournemouth.
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who worked under Guardiola during his time in Manchester, is widely expected to take over.

During Guardiola’s ten years at Manchester City, he lifted six Premier League titles, one Champions League crown, three FA Cups as well as five EFL Cups.
Speculation has been rife as to where Guardiola could end up next - he opted for a year-long sabbatical after leaving Barcelona before eventually becoming the new Bayern Munich manager. His long-term rival Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool due to mental fatigue from multiple battles with Guardiola, is yet to return to club management and it wouldn’t be out of the question for Guardiola to take an extended break from football.
However, odds have been slashed on Guardiola staying in the game and becoming the next England manager.
Thomas Tuchel will lead the Three Lions out during the upcoming World Cup in North America and the German recently signed a contract extension which will take him through until EURO 2028.
Nevertheless, a bad tournament could open the door for an early replacement, with Guardiola 2/1 via Betfair to become the next England manager.
Second favourite to land the elite manager is Brazil who are currently guided by Carlo Ancelotti heading into the summer’s tournament.
A spectacular return to Barcelona is also among the favourites as well as Bayern Munich and the Spanish national team job. Liverpool are priced as outsiders to complete the most audacious of moves.
Guardiola has already admitted the prospect of international management interests him.
He said previously: “A time will come when I feel it's enough and I'll definitely stop then. I'm not going to manage another team.
"I'm not talking about the long-term future but what I'm not going to do is leave Manchester City and go to another country to do the same thing as I am now.
"I wouldn't have the energy to do so. I'm still here doing what I am today. But the thought of starting off somewhere else, with all the process of the training and so on... no, no, no!
“Maybe a national team but that's different."
