A former Premier League boss could be set to join Liverpool if the club decides to sack Arne Slot following a 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

The champions suffered their heaviest loss in Premier League history on Saturday, meaning they have just one win from their last seven league games.

The defeat leaves Liverpool in the bottom half of the table after 11 matches, despite spending £450 million on signings during the summer transfer window.

It has been a dramatic collapse for Slot's side, who were pre-season favourites to lift the title.

Although Liverpool are expected to remain patient with the Dutchman, who won the title in his first season, pressure is mounting on the boss.

Now, it has emerged that Jurgen Klopp is the bookmakers' favourite to replace Slot.

The German spent nearly nine seasons in charge of Liverpool, during which time he won every major trophy available.

He stepped down as Liverpool boss in 2024, citing that he was "running out of energy."

Since then, he has taken on a role as the Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull, overseeing the strategy for their network of clubs.

But during an appearance last month on The Diary of a CEO, he did not rule out a return to Liverpool.

Klopp revealed: "I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if [I did return], then it's Liverpool.

"So, yeah, theoretically it is possible."

Arne Slot Replacements

Although Klopp is currently the favourite at 4/1, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is not far behind at 5/1.

The Austrian has experience of winning silverware, having lifted the UEFA Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and won the FA Cup last year for Crystal Palace.

Glasner also has an excellent recent record against Liverpool, having beaten them in each of their previous three meetings.

The third favourite for the job is another current Premier League manager, Bournemouth's, Andoni Iraola.

The Spaniard guided the Cherries to an impressive ninth-placed finish last season and earned praise for their attacking style of play.

Despite losing their goalkeeper and three defenders in the summer transfer window, Bournemouth have made another strong start to the campaign.

Other potential contenders for the job include Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann and Diego Simeone.
