Man Utd's bid to sign Matheus Cunha hijacked by one of their biggest rivals as four-man transfer list revealed

The Wolves man has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, but Ruben Amorim's side could face competition.

Despite Manchester United’s supposed interest in Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian is reportedly exploring alternative options.

Cunha, 25, has been a shining light in Wolves’ side this season, having produced 17 goals and six assists in 33 appearances.

As a result of his consistently impressive showings, the Brazil international has attracted interest from several huge clubs – including Manchester United.

And The Athletic’s David Ornstein issued an update on the player’s future during a Q&A on Thursday (May 8).

Orstein explained: “I don’t think it [the interest] has died down, there’s just not a great deal that can happen until the season ends and Cunha’s release clause at Wolves becomes active.

“In the meantime, United will seek to get personal terms in place; they’ve made an offer but I’m not aware of an agreement yet, so they’ll continue discussing it in an effort to get there.

“If/when that happens, and the clause becomes active, they can get the deal done.”

However, United may face competition from Arsenal if they are to sign Cunha, who is contracted to Wolves until June 2029, this summer.

As reported by Football Insider, Cunha’s camp is set for talks with the Gunners as Mikel Arteta’s side attempt to hijack United’s approach.

talkSPORT also reports that Newcastle United are interested and it is likely that Cunha’s decision will be influenced by each club’s status with regards to playing Champions League football next season.

As things stand, Arsenal and Newcastle are likely to qualify given their second and fourth place positions in the Premier League with just three games left to play.

Meanwhile, United will also fancy their chances of qualification, which will be confirmed if they manage to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final later this month.

Cunha has a reported release clause of £62.5m.

Who else could Man Utd sign?

If United fail to sign Cunha, they reportedly have three alternative options on their "radar" according to Ornstein.

"You’ve got Cunha, Mbeumo, Semenyo and Tyler Dibling of Southampton, who have all been or are on United’s radar," Orstein explained in his Q&A

"I’m sure there will more more, too. Still early days, though, so very tricky to say with any certainty."

Out of the three Cunha alternatives mentioned, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo is arguably the most established having produced 18 goals and eight assists in 39 appearances for the Bees this term.

While Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo has also enjoyed a decent season with the Cherries.

As for Southampton's Tyler Dibling, he has showed glimpses of promise in an otherwise poor side, but could benefit from a season playing in the Championship instead of a big move at just 19 years old.
