Real Madrid's Bizarre Gym Sessions May Highlight Why They Have So Many Injury Problems

"I swear I have never seen something like this. How can this happen at a club like Madrid, just unbelievable."

Real Madrid have been plagued by injuries in the opening weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has blamed the growing fixture list for the club's ongoing injury crisis, with Marco Asensio, Ferland Mendy and Luka Jovic out on the sidelines.

"We have seven games in 21 days following an international break and now there will be another," Zidane said in his press conference earlier this week.

"The players are not machines and some of them never stop. A modern-day footballer, and even more so at Madrid, has to play every three days. You have no time to rest."

From Eden Hazard and Luka Modric to James Rodriguez, Marcelo and Thibaut Courtois, the club's medical staff have been rushed off their feet since the start of pre-season.

But is a busy schedule to blame? A clip from a Madrid training session may suggest otherwise.

The likes of Karim Benzema and Luka Modric can be seen performing a bizarre leg press routine, and many have questioned the technique used.

Here is that footage from Madrid's training session.

Many have taken to Twitter to criticise the training methods used in the clip.

One Twitter user said "Even a person who is a normal gym goer would say that's not normal."

While another was shocked at the routine, saying: "I swear I have never seen something like this. How can this happen at a club like Madrid, just unbelievable."
