Viktor Gyokeres transfer saga takes ANOTHER twist after key issue during negotiations that could end deal

Arsenal are hoping to complete a deal for the Sporting striker.

Arsenal's move for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres is in serious jeopardy of falling through as negotiations hit a major stumbling block.

Gyokeres' future has been one of the main stories of this year's and last year's transfer window, with the Swede scoring 97 goals in 102 matches over the previous two seasons.

However, the saga looked to be finally coming to a close with the Gunners closing in on a deal with the Portuguese club, with The Athletic reporting there is a proposed five-year contract on the table at The Emirates.

Gyokeres has also had significant interest from his former manager Ruben Amorim, but has prioritised a move to Arsenal over a switch to Old Trafford.

Despite reports from Fabrizio Romano over the weekend that a deal with Mikel Arteta's side was advancing, new reports in Portugal via The Daily Mail suggest the complete opposite.

Gyokeres negotiations 'stalled'

The report claims there have been no developments in talks since the weekend, with the clubs unable to compromise on the value of the transfer fee.

Arsenal have already reportedly offered to pay £56m plus £12.9m, but Sporting are now believed to be standing firm on a solid fee of £60.4m.

The 27-year-old has even offered to give up £1.7m of his salary to sweeten the deal for his current club.

Due to the gap in valuation Portuguese outlet Record have reported that Arsenal representatives who were negotiating in Lisbon have now returned to London, confirming talks have stalled.

Speaking last month, Sporing president Frederico Varandas confirmed the club's stance on Gyokeres' price tag and insisted they would stand firm on their valuation.

He said: “I'm not going to say what the price is, the player knows what it is.

“I can tell you that Viktor won't leave for €60m plus €10m he won't, he just won't”.
