Paddy Power 'pay out' bets on Premier League team to be relegated just two games into season

The betting company said they would "save everyone the bother of waiting".

Betting company Paddy Power have already paid out on a Premier League team to be relegated, just two games into the 2024/25 season.

It has been a poor start to the campaign for several clubs, including Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace and Southampton, who have failed to pick up a point from their opening fixtures.

Sean Dyche's Everton are also looking for their first win. In fact, they currently sit rock bottom with a goal difference of minus seven following their latest defeat to Spurs.

After last weekend's 3-0 battering to Brighton at Goodison Park, the Toffees struggled again on Saturday as goals from Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min [2] and Cristian Romero sealed their fate.

The season is only young, of course. Everton could easily turn it around as they welcome back the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite, if he decides to stay at Goodison Park.

But some have seen enough, including betting company Paddy Power, who have decided to pay out on bets for the club to be relegated at the end of the season.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, they wrote: "'EARLY PAYOUT. After today's hammering, we thought we'd save everyone the bother of waiting..."

They added: "So, we've paid out early on EVERTON TO BE RELEGATED! SINGLES & MULTIPLES. ONLINE & RETAIL. NO MAX STAKE. Settlements will be processed shortly."

After the full-time whistle, Sean Dyche said Everton are unlikely to make any signings before the window slams shut as a result of tight finances, amongst other factors.

Despite their poor start to the campaign, Paul Merson believes the Toffees will stay up.

“I don’t see them going down," he told Sky Sports. "The thing with them is they’ll never change their game, so they’ll keep playing the same way.

“The team down the bottom have to change when they’re struggling, then it becomes a struggle. Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City play good football. If they start losing football matches, and they have to change how they play, it’s much harder.

“Everton will play the same way the whole time – the Sean Dyche-know how. I’d be shocked if Everton went down.”
