Ally McCoist has given his verdict on how this year's summer signings have settled into their new clubs, giving his biggest flop as well as the signing of the season.

The summer transfer window saw Premier League clubs spend a record-breaking £2.36 billion on transfers which smashed the previous record of £1.92 billion set in the 2022 summer.

As we head into the later stages of the season, McCoist gave his view on how some of the biggest signings have adapted to life at their new clubs.

“Andre Onana has been nothing like the signing everyone thought he would be for Manchester United, but I’m not giving him ‘flop of the season so far’, I think that’s ever so slightly harsh,” McCoist said on talkSPORT.

“But Moises Caicedo, I saw him a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford with Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park, and both of them were, for a quarter of a billion pounds, not great… Caicedo would certainly get my vote over Onana."

Caicedo joined Chelsea from Brighton for a huge £115m fee after a drawn-out transfer saga that saw the Ecuadorian international turn down a move to Liverpool in favour of Chelsea.

Since the move, Caicedo has started 16 times for Chelsea in the Premier League but is yet to register a goal or assist which in fairness isn't particularly expected for his position.

Despite Chelsea's Premier League woes, the club has had a successful run in the Carabao Cup, making it all the way to the final where they will face Liverpool.

Caicedo has featured in all but one of Chelsea's matches in the competition, averaging 61 minutes per game in six appearances.

McCoist was also pressed on the signing of Rasmus Hojlund, who is another big-name summer signing who has received his fair share of criticism.

"Hojlund? All the attributes are there and you’ve got to remember he’s still young, so there’s no way he’s coming into consideration for my flop of the season so far at this stage. I’m settling on Moises Caicedo," McCoist reiterated.

The former Scotland international also made an interesting choice for his signing of the season, choosing to snub the likes of Cole Palmer and James Maddison who have received plenty of plaudits for their performances.

"My signing of the season so far is Mohammed Kudus at West Ham,” he said. “He has been magic, coming in from the right with that left foot. What other options have we got," McCoist explained.

Kudus signed for the Hammers from Ajax in the summer after previously seeing a move to Everton collapse last season.

The Ghanaian has six goals and one assist in just 10 league starts and also transferred his league form to the European scene with three goals in the Europa League.
