Chelsea Transfer Collapsed After FIFA Blocked Deal Due to Little-Known Rule

French defender Axel Disasi was expected to leave Chelsea in the summer window but they failed to shift the defender owing to a little-known rule.

Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, and while he gained important minutes for the Villans, the centre-back was unable to secure a summer exit.

Former side Monaco showed late interest in a move for the 27-year-old but a deadline day return to the Stade Louis II was blocked by FIFA.

Jackson move to Bayern prevented Disasi exit

That’s because Chelsea had already filled their loan quota as per FIFA’s rules on international loans following Nicolas Jackson’s switch to Bayern Munich.

Jackson completed his on-again, off-again temporary move to German giants Bayern on deadline day, meaning that Disasi was unable to secure a return to Ligue 1.

This means that Disasi will remain on the fringes of Enzo Maresca’s plans with the defender placed in the “bomb squad” in west London with the former Monaco man completely frozen out of the first team picture at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are open to his move away from the club, with a January exit expected and Disasi is garnering Premier League interest despite coming close to a return to Monaco in the summer.

Disasi has Premier League suitors

According to caughtoffside, Premier League pair Crystal Palace and West Ham are monitoring Disasi’s situation at Chelsea.

Palace came close to losing Marc Guehi to Liverpool on deadline day, but the switch fell through as the Eagles were unable to land a replacement for the England international.

Guehi, who is out of contract next summer, may see out his current deal at Selhurst Park, or Palace could look to sell at the turn of the year and turn their attention to Disasi.

The Hammers are also reportedly keen on Disasi, though the player himself is yet to be convinced about a switch to east London despite Graham Potter’s admiration of the player.

The transfer window remains open in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia, so there is potential for Disasi to yet to secure a move away from the club.

In a World Cup year, Disasi needs game time and can ill afford to not play as he comes into his peak years.

Disasi is contracted to Chelsea until 2029, though he’s unlikely to see out the remainder of his deal at Stamford Bridge have been completely frozen out by Enzo Maresca.
