Manchester United fans are fuming after claims were made that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has passed Sir Alex Ferguson in terms of his achievements in the their first few seasons in English football.

Manchester City currently sit top of the Premier League table ahead of their clash with relegation battling Everton this afternoon, with a one-point gap on Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side who face Brighton and Hove Albion later today.

As well as the top flight of English football, City also have a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid to focus on next week after securing a 1-1 draw against the reigning champions at the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night.

Since Guardiola's arrival back in 2016, City have gone from strength-to-strength and now find themselves at the top of the food chain within the footballing world, with the Champions League trophy being the only accolade that has eluded them thus far.

With nine major trophies to his name at the Etihad Stadium, comparisons are now being made with arguably the greatest manager to have graced the top flight of English football, Sir Alex Ferguson. As seen in the tweet attached below, which highlights the records of both managers in their opening seasons in charge of their respective Manchester clubs.

Alex Ferguson joined United in 1986, let's see how he did in his first 6 seasons since Pep has also completed 6 seasons at City.

1st: 11th place
2nd: 2nd place
3rd: 11th place
4th: 13th place
5th: 6th place
6th: 2nd place

United fans have since reacted to the post, which was met by a fair amount of displeasure and opposition. Here are some of the reactions:

@AGA82171: Don't include the state of the squads they inherited because it doesn't suit your narrative.

@rhirrcur: Sir Alex had to deal with off-field issues such as dragging players out of the pub. Just admit Sir Alex RUINED your childhood. There's a reason that longevity like Sir Alex has never been repeated. Stop creating your own metrics to compare lol.

@JamesMitch14: One of the worst Ferguson Vs Pep takes ever to be written. It's as if context doesn't exist.

@iamsriram98: The fact that these lot cannot scratch this itch no matter how hard they try or win is really beautiful. Keep trying to hammer home this point, no one is going to agree with the larger point you're trying to make.

@stupendsoccer: Think the situations might have been a little different mate.

@d_amons08: Possibly the most ridiculous comparison i’ve seen on this app
