The 18-year-old released a statement on social media, thanking the messages that he's received.

His manager has now weighed in on the incident and says the star midfielder suffered an ankle injury.

A heartbroken Klopp told Sky Sports: "Harvey is an excellent player - he is now out and we will wait for him.

"I could see his foot - we were all shocked. That is it.

"It is a bad injury. Ankle - it was dislocated and it has now been put back. He is now in the hospital."

Virgil van Dijk, who starred at the back, also spoke about Elliott following his side's 3-0 win over Leeds United.

"All our thoughts and prayers are with Harvey. Hopefully he recovers quickly. It looked bad," he said.

"From the moment it happened, you knew it was really serious. It's difficult to focus and we tried to deal with it in the best possible way."
