Supporters have urged Tyson Fury to step up and save Morecambe from extinction owing to their perilous financial position. But the reality of a positive outcome appears to come from a Panjab Warriors takeover, backed by politicians.

There is a strong chance that the Shrimps could shut down for good with owner Jason Whittingham continuing to struggle to sell the club. As such, Morecambe were suspended by the Football League on July 28th until August 20th due to financial complications.

Whittingham first put the club up for sale back in September 2022, but has failed to find new investors at the time of writing. And fans are pleading with Fury, who resides in Morecambe, to dip into his pocket and save the club from closing its doors forever.

Fury himself has previously talked about the possibility of taking over Morecambe, telling talkSPORT in 2022: “I'm thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they're in League One at the moment. So I was thinking I would invest X amount of millions in them. I've been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club.

Tyson Fury's net worth revealed

Earlier this year, the Manchester Evening News reported that Fury’s net worth was an estimated £161.9m, up from £82.2m from 2024.

Fury, should he opt to invest in Morecambe, would face competition from London-based investment firm Panjab Warriors.

They received clearance from the EFL to go ahead with the takeover in June and have urged Whittingham to sell.

“We implore Bond Group to complete the sale of the club immediately so that this anguish can be ended and the club can look to a brighter future under Panjab Warriors,” a statement read earlier this year.

And Gurinder Singh Josan CBE MP, the Labour Member of Parliament for Smethwick, today released a statement on his official X account on the future of the club, throwing his backing behind Panjab Warriors.

“FUTURE OF MORECAMBE FC,” Josan posted on his personal account.

“It’s clear @Panjabwarriors is the only route to saving @MorecambeFC.

“We’re proud of the Sikh-led Panjab Warriors’ work with the local community to save this historic club. The sale must be completed now.”

Morecambe face an uncertain future, however, and fans are hoping the sale can be completed in the coming days.

Morecambe were relegated to the National League last season having finished rock bottom in League Two.

The Shrimps won only 10 of 46 league games, collecting 36 points in the process, and lost their final six matches to compound a miserable campaign.

However, Morecambe ceased all football operations last week, with the players, who are said to be owed £316,000 in unpaid wages as per the Guardian, sent home from training.
