Man Utd midfielder to leave in January as move revealed

Man Utd midfielder to leave in January as move revealed

Man Utd youngster Charlie Savage is set to move on loan to League One side Forest Green until the end of the season.

Manchester United have sanctioned another January departure with young midfielder Charlie Savage set to join Forest Green on loan.

As per BBC Sport, the 19-year-old will become the latest Red Devils youngster to leave on loan, with Shola Shoretire moving to Bristol Rovers last week.

Savage is the son of former United, Blackburn and Derby midfielder Robbie, and has impressed Erik ten Hag since the Dutchman took charge at Old Trafford last summer.

The midfielder was involved in United's pre-season and mid-World Cup training camps, and has trained with the first team at Carrington this season. He played 114 minutes during pre-season.

Savage made his senior United debut last season, appearing off the bench during a Champions League group stage clash against against Young Boys in December 2021.

He is yet to be involved in a matchday squad this term, however, and the Red Devils have decided a loan move is best for his development at this stage.

Man Utd loan news: Charlie Savage set to join Forest Green

The youngster, who is eligible to play for the Wales national team, is set to join Forest Green for the remainder of the season.

Rovers are currently bottom of League One, four points from safety, and are in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to fifth-placed Bolton.

BBC Sport say that United fielded enquiries from several clubs for the midfielder, with Savage deciding he wanted to join Forest Green.

The club are currently coached by Ian Burchnall, who succeeded Graham Potter as manager of Swedish club Ostersunds and achieved a win ratio of over 50 per cent with National League side Notts County before departing last summer.

It is claimed that a successful loan spell could catch the eye of Wales boss Rob Page, with Savage yet to make his senior international debut. He has, however, represented his nation at four separate youth levels, and received his maiden U21 call-up last year.
