Erik ten Hag reaches Manchester United landmark not achieved since Sir Alex Ferguson era in Wolves win

Erik ten Hag reached a Man Utd landmark with his latest win.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag achieved a landmark that has not been reached since the era of Sir Alex Ferguson after his side's 2-0 win over Wolves.

Goals from Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho sealed victory for United, who go four points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool with three games each to play in the race for Champions League qualification.

Martial was brought in to the side due to Marcus Rashford's injury-enforced absence, and certainly made an impact for Ten Hag.

He was in the right place at the right time to divert Antony's cutback into the net for what was his fifth Premier League goal of an injury-hit season.

Garnacho then made his long-awaited return to action following an ankle injury, replacing Jadon Sancho in the 82nd minute.

And he marked his first appearance since March 12 with a goal to cap off a successful day for United, and for their manager.

Ten Hag reaches Man Utd landmark

If United secure Champions League qualification, Ten Hag's first season at Old Trafford can certainly be considered a successful - if not perfect.

The Dutchman lifted his first trophy at the club when United won the Carabao Cup in February, and they are in the final of the FA Cup, which takes place against Manchester City on June 3.

United also reached the quarter-final of the Europa League, but were dumped out of the competition after a 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in Spain.

And the heavy 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in March also showed that Ten Hag and his side still have work to do next season, but the manager has now accumulated enough victories to reach a landmark not matched by any United boss since Ferguson.

The Dutchman has now achieved 38 victories in all competitions this season (via OptaJoe). The last time a United boss did so was in the 2010/11 season, when Ferguson guided the club to the Champions League final and won the Premier League title.

The Scot achieved a total of 39 wins in that campaign, meaning that two more victories for Ten Hag would overhaul that tally and slot his name into an even higher position in the United record books.
