Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has made a brutal prediction about his former club while offering his honest opinion on Ruben Amorim.
Ferguson, who managed Man United between 1986 and 2013, is the Red Devils’ greatest-ever manager, having guided the side to 38 major trophies, including two UEFA Champions League crowns and 13 Premier League titles.
But since his departure, United have failed to win a single league title, with arch-rivals Liverpool equalling their record of 20 triumphs when the Merseyside club won the 2024/25 title under Arne Slot.
United have finished second just twice – under Jose Mourinho in 2017/18 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2020/21 – since Ferguson left, with all six permanent managers – David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Mourinho, Solskjaer, Erik ten Hag and, so far, Amorim – failing to return the club to its former glory.

Currently, Amorim is tasked with leading United, but he could not stop his side finishing a record low 15th in the Premier League last term, as well as losing the Europa League final.

16 games into the 2025/26 campaign, United sit sixth with a record of seven wins, five draws, and four losses.
Although finishing in this position would be an improvement on last season, United finishing sixth is still seen as a disappointment to those associated with the club.
Many former players, including Paul Scholes, have questioned Amorim’s position, but what does Ferguson make of the Portuguese?
The Scot recently offered his thoughts during an interview with Press Box PR and compared Amorim’s early Old Trafford experience with his own.
“He [Amorim] is a good personality,” Ferguson said.
“It is not easy. I remember looking back on my own time there, starting off when Liverpool were the bee’s knees. They were a fantastic club, winning the European Cup four times and all that, but then it took them 31 years to win the league again.”
The 83-year-old then suggested that United may have to wait another decade to taste real success.

“We are now in the same situation [as Liverpool in the 1990s],” he added.
“It could be ten years, could be 11 years, because of that cycle. It has to be thought out carefully, and we have to make sure the recruitment is going to be better than what it was."
Ferguson then spoke about the club’s most recent recruit, goalkeeper Senne Lammens, describing the Belgian as someone who has “made a difference” to the side while also praising Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha as players who “look as if they will contribute to the recovery of our form”.
United return to action away against Aston Villa on December 21.
