Some believe that the Premier League is turning into a one-horse race, like the Bundesliga or La Liga.

Following Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Everton yesterday at Goodison Park, Pep Guardiola's team are closing in on their third successive Premier League title.

While City were winning, Arsenal dropped points against Brighton & Hove Albion in a 3-0 defeat.

Earlier this month, Mikel Arteta said that Arsenal were ‘not settling for second place’ but at this stage in the proceedings, it’s looking more likely than ever.

With City riding high on 85 points, talkSPORT hosts have questioned whether the Premier League is becoming too much like the Bundesliga or Spain’s La Liga in terms of its lack of competition.

During last night's reaction to Arsenal's defeat on the radio station, the conversation led to questions over whether the Premier League is becoming too much of a one-horse race.

“It’s almost impossible to compete with Manchester City over the course of a 38-game season,” Alex Crook said.

“Is that healthy for the Premier League? Because this is going to be the third successive title for City.

“Even though they started the season relatively slowly by their standards.”

He then continued to praise this season's signed striker, Erling Haaland.

Crook said: “They’ve got Erling Haaland who’s going to smash every goalscoring record under the sun. Is there a danger that the Premier League almost becomes the new Bundesliga?”

“Or the new La Liga? You know where one team just dominates and win it season after season, after season?” he asked.

A clip of Crook’s thought process was posted via Twitter, and football fans have had their say on the Bundesliga comparison.

One wrote: “Even when [Manchester] United were winning it every year teams could still compete and didn’t need to be filthy rich to, plus United did it through their academy and clubs like Man City have just used a cheat code and it’s completely destroying the Premier League.”

Another agreed and tweeted: “I think the difference in the Premier League is that the other teams have enough money that they can compete.

“It’s all about investing and recruiting it properly for a couple of years and someone else will win the title race.”

However, other fans have disagreed with Crook’s statement and believe that the league is only going to get more competitive in the future.

One wrote: “So now Manchester United aren’t winning it every year, it’s a concern?"

Another said: “Is it [unhealthy?]? Or was it when United won 13 out of 21? It’s up to other clubs to step up to the plate… It’s not City’s fault Arsenal has bottled it… It wasn’t City’s fault Liverpool lost a 7-point lead.”

A third user remained somewhat neutral and wrote: “Neither healthy nor unhealthy, while City have dominated, they’ve brought the other top teams with them, Chelsea and Liverpool have won the Champions League during that period.”

They added: “Don’t see Dortmund or Leipzig winning [the Champions League] anytime soon.”
