Liverpool to make shock move for Premier League star next summer

Liverpool may have given up their pursuit of Matheus Nunes in the transfer window just gone, allowing Wolves to swoop in, but the club are still believed to admire the player.

As such, the Reds are reportedly seeking to sign the midfielder next summer after gaining a year of experience in England.

That’s according to UOL journalist Bruno Andrade who claims Nunes is still one of the “names at the top of Jürgen Klopp’s list of preferred targets.”

However, it’s unlikely he’d be able to join on the cheap.

Just a few weeks ago he signed for Wolves in a deal worth approximately €50 million, and Bruno Lage’s side would surely want to turn a hefty profit on the player.

One suspects, at least for now, Liverpool have missed the bus in regard to Nunes. He was there on a plate for them last summer, and they didn’t take him.

It’s even believed the midfielder was angling for a move to Liverpool instead of Wolves but the Reds’ reluctance to make a formal offer made his decision for him.

And with Liverpool later in the window bringing in Arthur Melo in emergency fashion, Matheus Nunes must’ve been left scratching his head.

Nunes though won’t be the only midfielder on Liverpool’s radar. A major evolution within that area of the pitch is required at Anfield next summer.

As such, the Reds have been linked with a host of household names including Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, and Nicolo Barella.

Bellingham’s profile is the one which has seemed to most catch the imagination of Liverpool fans.

The Englishman has matured impressively at Borussia Dortmund over the course of the last couple of seasons and appears to be more than ready for a return to England.

Liverpool won’t be alone in the race for his signature though and must have a list of alternative targets if their pursuit of the player does go awry.

And after all the speculation last summer, it’d appear Matheus Nunes remains on that list.
