"No chance" - Liverpool told they won't sign Real Madrid star despite £86.5 million bid

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Liverpool have got ‘no chance’ of signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde next summer.

Valverde has become an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s side, playing 46 times for Los Blancos last season and even assisted Vincius Junior’s winner in the Champions League final last term to defeat the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp must’ve been impressed by what he saw in the Uruguayan, as Spanish outlet AS reported that the Merseyside club made a staggering £86.5 million bid for Valverde late in the summer window.

The offer was turned down as Ancelotti views him as an important part of his team, but there are murmurings that the Premier League side could return next summer.

However, Campbell believes Liverpool’s chances of landing Valverde remain very slim.

Speaking to Football Insider, the pundit said: “No chance (that Liverpool should increase their offer). Valverde is a player who Real Madrid have put a lot of time into. They have built him up and developed him into a regular starter.

“The guy scored an unbelievable goal at the weekend as well. He is a player who I think will go on to be world class. He has got a great engine, a hell of a shot on him and can pass the ball with both feet.

“Real Madrid are not a selling club. They have developed this youngster and he is now starting to repay the faith. I cannot see him moving to Liverpool.

“Real Madrid are not a club who sell their best players.”

It’s no secret that Liverpool are in the market for midfield reinforcements, with a shortage of quality options in this department a significant factor in their inconsistent early season form.

The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all missed minutes through injury, and this forced the club into signing Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus late in the window.

But reports suggest the Reds are not impressed with the Brazilian
