Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on major Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham.

The journalist stated that a move for the England international was ‘impossible’ during the transfer window just gone, but next summer there will be a ‘crazy race’ for the midfielder.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Romano had this to say about Bellingham’s future:

“For both Real Madrid and Liverpool, it was impossible to sign Bellingham this summer because, (at the) end of May, the directors at Borussia Dortmund were very clear with Liverpool and other clubs who approached for Bellingham.”

“No way, there is going to be no negotiation,” was the reported statement from the directors.

“It’s not about the price, it’s not about the fee, it’s about the decision. Borussia Dortmund decided not to sell Bellingham this summer. They were really clear in their position,” Romano went on to say.

“They will try to dream about keeping Bellingham in summer of 2023, but they know it’s not going to be easy because next summer for Bellingham, there is going to be a crazy, crazy race.”

The young English midfielder has made an astonishing 143 senior appearances at the ripe age of 19 years old and has been described by many, including Dortmund captain Mats Hummels, as ‘mature for his age’.

Although the Reds weren’t able to secure Bellingham’s signature this summer, Jurgen Klopp will be eagerly anticipating next summer’s transfer window to have another crack at signing the midfielder.

As well as Champions League winners Real Madrid, Liverpool will face stiff competition from some of England’s top clubs that are also looking to strengthen their midfields.

“In England, all the top clubs, not just Liverpool, are following Bellingham. Man City, for sure, but also Man United have been following Bellingham for a long time, so many clubs will be in the race.”

Manchester City are reportedly willing to put ‘significant investment’ into their next priority area, which is said to be in midfield.

Many believe Bellingham to be the future heir to Bernardo Silva, who’s been tipped with a move to Barcelona for two summers in a row.

But as the reports suggest, signing the Borussia Dortmund midfielder would come at a premium price’ and it's expected that a fee of at least £100 million would be the minimum figure to obtain his services.

This saga will most definitely be one to look out for during next summer’s transfer window!
