Man City set to make official bid as £140 million transfer bombshell drops

News of a Manchester City official bid being tabled has emerged courtesy of a Fabrizio Romano bombshell on Tuesday night.

City kicked off the new season with a late 2-1 comeback win over Bournemouth on Sunday, with Josko Gvardiol scoring the winner.

Club-record signing Elliot Anderson was handed his competitive debut for the Blues as City's only significant first-team addition this summer.

A lack of midfield options meant Marc Guehi started in midfield for the win.

But that looks set to change for City, who agreed an £85 million deal to sign Morocco and Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi .

Not resting there, Romano has reported that City will soon send an official bid for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentina midfielder came off the bench in Chelsea's 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday and was booed by both sets of supporters.

According to Romano, Fernandez is very much interest in reuniting with Enzo Maresca at the Etihad Stadium and has "opened doors" to the transfer and given it the green light.

He claims that the deal is "absolutely on" but for Chelsea to sell, it depends on the fee offered and if they can replace him adequately.

The west London outfit have reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist to replace him if he moves on.

Chelsea recently set a deadline for clubs such as City to meet their £120 million valuation, though the Carabao Cup and FA Cup winners are still actively pursuing a deal.

In an update on TyC Sports, Argentine journalist Gaston Edul claimed that City are preparing to offer a record £130 million or £140 million bid for Fernandez.

That fee would be a record-breaking sum in the Premier League, eclipsing Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool from Newcastle last term.

Xabi Alonso was asked about Fernandez's situation following the Fulham win, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: “In football, I am not surprised by anything. We will see. My wish is that we know what will happen for the future but we will see this week.”

News of City potentially smashing their transfer record comes after they confirmed a historic sale.

Winger Savinho, now going back 'Savio' after a name change, has completed a £85 million switch to Spurs.

City have made a significant profit on the Brazilian and he is now their record sale - edging out an £81 million deal which saw Julian Alvarez sign for Atletico Madrid.

Roberto De Zerbi made no secret of his delight to secure Savinho's services and said that he brings "energy, imagination and quality" to his side.
