Liverpool have been handed a massive transfer blow as it has been reported that Konrad Laimer will be joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

It had previously been reported that both the Reds and Chelsea were interested in the 25-year-old but it now appears as though he has chosen to play for the German champions.

Munich have an incredible track record of attracting free signings and could add Laimer to that list soon.

The Reds have been linked to many midfielders in recent weeks as it is an area they are desperate to strengthen.

"He is on the verge to join Bayern"

According to German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Laimer is on his way to Munich. He tweeted: "X News #Laimer: He is on verge to join Bayern in summer! Verbal agreement in total but no medical yet. Signing in 2023. He will get a long-term contract. At least until 2027. Absolutely desired player! Versatile use (central/right), pressing machine, mentality!"

Jurgen Klopp has admitted in recent weeks that he and his side could do with some new midfielders.

"I know we have had this discussion since it all started. I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder, and you were all right and I was wrong. That’s the situation. But the specific point doesn’t change — we will do something but it has to be the right one.

“We are actually working constantly on these things, sometimes [a possible transfer is] too expensive, sometimes not the right player, sometimes the situation changes. We are working and will see if something will happen or not. I don’t know.

“We are looking and if it is the right player we need him, and if it is not the right player we don’t need him. We will not change how we deal with the situation so there is nothing for me to say to you in this moment. We will see.”
