Liverpool have been ranked 19th out of 20 Premier League teams in terms of net owner funding.

Owned by American businessman John W Henry’s Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool have won every major trophy available to them under their stewardship.

However, the lack of investment has been something the Liverpool fans have been criticising FSG about in recent years.

Despite spending big on the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Darwin Nunez and Alisson, the Anfield faithful wants more.

Now, according to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool are in 19th place in the Premier League for net owner funding.

Net owner funding is the money put into the club by the owners minus the money taken out in the form of dividends.

Over the last five years, FSG have a net owner funding of negative £37 million, whereas Manchester City’s owners have put £81 million into the club, with that figure increasing drastically over the last decade.

The report by The Athletic also delved into the transfer spending over the last five years.

Liverpool’s total spending came to a total of £660 million, which is again below City’s eye-watering £992 million.

Manchester United have spent £850 million whilst Arsenal’s total stands at £676 million.

After seeing the report, Liverpool fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “Klopp is a freaking genius. That's all.”

Another tweeted: “FSG need to sell up. Not some half-hearted partial sale where the proceeds go to FSG rather than into the club, but a full sale to owners who will spend enough to give us a chance to compete against the state-owned clubs and the likes of Chelsea.”

A third fan added: “It’s actually pathetic what Klopp has to work with at one of the highest profited worth teams in the world the last years.”

Someone else wrote: “This is scandalous and leaves you with no hope for the summer.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “We need to sell either one of Salah, Alison or Trent that can fund our next team. It really is the sad sad truth.”

Liverpool are heading into a crucial summer transfer window as they look to challenge back at the top once again.

To date, they have signed Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and have been linked with moves for the likes of Manu Kone, Nicolo Barella, Khephren Thuram and Gabri Veiga.
