Mikel Arteta accused of getting away with constantly breaking Premier League rule in Arsenal's win over Chelsea

Mikel Arteta again angered fans with his touchline behaviour in Arsenal's win over Chelsea on Sunday, with many spotting a clear rule breach that went unpunished.

Premier League champions Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium, with captain Martin Odegaard popping up with the winning goal.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring just 77 seconds into the clash for the visitors before Kai Havertz levelled matters against his former side.

Odegaard finished a fine team move in the second half to maintain Arsenal's perfect start to the new campaign.

Mikel Arteta's antics rile up fans who accuse him of getting away with rule break

The London derby was fiery as expected and Arteta was near enough kicking every ball on the touchline.

The Spaniard is known for being incredibly animated and that did not change as he took on his long-time friend and compatriot Mikel Arteta.

But Arteta's antics riled up fans, particularly with how often he was comfortable outside of his technical area and close to the pitch.

This season, his fellow managers Roberto De Zerbi and Matthias Jaissle have been yellow card for committing the offence.

One fan on X vented: "This Arsenal side get away with murder every week and so does Arteta on the touchline. What’s the point of technical areas anymore? He doesn’t stay in it

A second said: "Watching this Arsenal game I am yet to see Mikel Arteta actually be in his technical area. Not once. Constantly on the touchline. One rule for one, one rule for others."

Another added: "Arteta practically pressing opposing players, foot on the touchline, not a peep from the 4th official."

A fourth user: "Safe to say the rules don't apply to Arteta."

What rules must Premier League managers follow in their technical area?

As per rules brought in at the start of the 2023/24 season, only one person can stand at the front of the technical area and coach during a game.

Another is allowed to stand, but they must remain close to the technical area seating. If these rules are not adhered to, an automatic yellow card is handed out.

In an obvious rule, managers must remain in their technical area and not step outside of it. They are not punished if they do it on occasional basis but if they do so persistently, a yellow card is due.

Arteta avoided a caution and further riled up opposition supporters when he was spotted grinning in an exchange with the fourth official after the final whistle was blown.
