Lionel Messi expected to return for PSG training next year, first match back since World Cup triumph revealed

Lionel Messi is set to return to PSG next year following his World Cup success.

Lionel Messi is expected to return to Paris Saint-Germain in the new year following his World Cup triumph with Argentina.

Messi headed into the tournament in Qatar in fine form following his heroics for PSG this season.

He had scored 12 goals in all competitions before linking up with the national team. He then starred as he was named the best player of the tournament, chipping in with seven goals.

The 35-year-old is still in Argentina as he celebrates his country's World Cup success, meaning Christophe Galtier will have to wait before calling upon his star man's luxurious services.

PSG, who are unbeaten in Ligue 1 having won an impressive 13 of their 15 league games this campaign, resume their 2022/23 season at home to Strasbourg on December 28.

But Galtier will be without Messi as Argentine outlet TyC Sports claim the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is set to return to PSG for their home league clash against Angers on January 11.

What's more, the report claims the Argentina captain will spend New Year's back home before returning to PSG training on January 3.

So, Messi appears set to miss two league matches and will unlikely be considered for his side's cup game against Chateauroux on January 6.

PSG sit at the top of the league, with 41 points on the board, five points clear of second-placed Lens.

They remain in the domestic cup and face Bayern Munich in the next round of the Champions League.

The PSG bosses will be hoping Messi comes back to the club full of confidence in hope he can lead them to European glory.
