Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has sent Trent Alexander-Arnold a clear warning just days before his expected debut at the Club World Cup.

After months of rumours, former Liverpool star Alexander-Arnold completed a transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid on June 1.

Less than two weeks later, the defender was officially unveiled as a Real Madrid player during an official event at the club's training ground last week, shocking fans as he made his first speech in fluent Spanish.

With Real Madrid set to get their Club World Cup campaign underway with a match against Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal on Wednesday, it is possible that the 26-year-old could make his club debut in just a couple of days.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, ahead of Alonso's first match since replacing club legend Carlo Ancelotti, he has told the entire Real Madrid changing room that there is one thing that he will not stand for, laziness.

Journalist Javier Herraez claims that club sources have told him that players have been warned that if they are not prepared to run, then they will not be included in the starting team, regardless of how important they are.

Herraez said: "I know that whoever doesn't run and whoever doesn't make an effort won't be playing. Whatever their name is.

"Whoever saves a run, gets a yellow card. And the second time gets a red card. With Xabi Alonso, and you know him, there's little nonsense.

"If you save yourself from pointless runs... it's another thing that you won't be running like a defender, but you'll have to put pressure on the centre back all the time."

The journalist continues to claim that this rule will even apply to Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is reportedly set to sign a contract extension ahead of his current deal expiring next year.

He added: "It's not going to work for you to just stand there waiting for something to be given to you so you can kick it in. You're going to have to run for every ball."
