The tension is clear to see at Real Madrid as they near the end of a hugely disappointing season.
Los Blancos are on course to finish the season trophyless and could be handed the ultimate humiliation when they face Barcelona in El Clásico this weekend. Barca already enjoy an 11-point lead at the top of the La Liga table and will win the title if they avoid defeat to their bitter rivals on Sunday night.
There has been plenty of controversy over star forward Kylian Mbappe after he travelled to Sardinia last weekend while recovering from a hamstring injury. The timing of the trip, just days before the Barcelona clash, has led to criticism from Spanish media and Real Madrid supporters, and there is even an online petition calling for him to be sold amid the belief that Mbappe is prioritising fitness for France's World Cup campaign instead.
Mbappe isn't the only player caught in the headlines, either. A few days ago, reports suggested that defender Alvaro Carreras had been involved in a training ground altercation with teammate Antonio Rudiger, amid further reports questioning the attitude of the former Manchester United man.

Carreras has been dropped by head coach Alvaro Arbeloa and has become the third-choice at left-back after they signed him for $50 million from Benfica last summer. The 23-year-old started the season as a key part of the Real Madrid backline but is now well down the pecking order amid questions about his attitude and application.
Carreras issues statement after alleged incident
It was a dream come true for Alvaro Carreras to rejoin Real Madrid last summer after he left the club as a teenager to sign for Manchester United. He never made a competitive appearance at Old Trafford before he completed a permanent move to Benfica in 2024, a year before he was bought by Madrid.
However, his dream move is quickly turning into a nightmare, and there is a real fear he might not feature for the La Liga giants again this season. A report from The Athletic claimed former Chelsea star Rudiger got into a “heated argument” with a first-team player in April, and although that person was not named, Carreras appears to have confirmed it himself.
In a statement released on his personal Instagram account, the left-back wrote: “In recent days, certain insinuations and comments about me have emerged that do not correspond to reality.
"My commitment to this club and to the coaches I’ve had has been unwavering since day one, and it will continue to be so. Since I returned, I have always worked with the highest level of professionalism, respect, and dedication. I have fought very hard to fulfill my dream of returning home.
"Regarding the incident with a teammate, it was an isolated matter without importance that has already been resolved. My relationship with the entire team is very good.
"¡Hala Madrid! 🤍”
