Real Madrid are lining up a blockbuster move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri, and the price they're willing to pay has emerged.

An incredible World Cup with Spain saw Rodri lead his country to the biggest trophy in football and win the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

After a challenging period through injury, the 30-year-old proved why he remains arguably the best midfielder in world football, and Manchester City now have a huge task on their hands to keep him.

City have long had a contract placed on the table for Rodri, but with his current deal expiring in June 2027, speculation over his future has naturally been a major talking point.

The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner has attracted long-term interest from Real Madrid, and according to RMC Sport, the midfield maestro has agreed personal terms with the Spanish giants.

Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are also admirers of the former Atletico Madrid star, but it appears Jose Mourinho is in the driving seat to land his signature.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Wednesday (July 29) that Los Blancos have 'approached' Man City to sign Rodri for the first time.

'Negotiations have started with verbal discussions between clubs,' Romano reported on X.

'Florentino PĂ©rez has given approval to the deal after doors closed for month and Real indicate they are ready to spend over €50m.'

While this is a significant update, Mourinho may have to wait to accelerate a deal, as City's No.16 has just undergone back surgery and is expected to be sidelined for a short spell.

A short club statement read: "Manchester City can confirm Rodri has undergone successful minor back surgery. The midfielder had been feeling discomfort for some time but has now undergone a procedure to address the issue and will now begin a short period of rehabilitation. Everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery."

The Spaniard is expected to be out of action for a few weeks, with a potential return in late August.

What Enzo Maresca has said on Rodri's future

Everyone knows that Rodri has the potential to drive Enzo Maresca's side to the Premier League title, especially after an incredible World Cup.

Rodri's ability to control games and read play is irreplaceable, and Maresca has already said he isn't "worried" about losing one of his star players.

"We have to say that around big players there are always speculation. I'm not worried about that, it's normal," the Italian said.

"They won the World Cup, and he was one of the best players. Every manager wants to have Rodri, but now surgery. He needs to rest and recover, and then he will be back here with us."

Rodri was already expected to miss the entire pre-season due to his exertions with Spain at the World Cup, and now surgery has delayed his return even further.

But as it stands, Maresca is excited to welcome his midfielder back, even though his departure is looking increasingly likely.
