Premier League Target Jules Kounde Sent Off For Throwing The Ball At Jordi Alba's Face

Premier League Target Jules Kounde Sent Off For Throwing The Ball At Jordi Alba's Face

Kounde's straight red card could have cost his team against Barcelona but Sevilla were able to get out of the game with a draw.

Sevilla centre back Jules Kounde was sent off for throwing the ball in Jordi Alba's face, in what could be his final game before a move to the Premier League.

Kounde is one of the brightest young defenders in European football and there were many rumours about his departure from La Liga in the summer.

Instead of moving to the Premier League, Kounde has helped Sevilla to second place in Spain, with only Real Madrid ahead of them.

On Tuesday night they faced Barcelona at home, with Xavi's side looking to break into the top four. Papu Gomez gave the hosts the lead, before Ronald Araujo equalised just before half time.

Kounde then made life difficult for his team with just over 25 minutes to go when he got himself sent off. Alba gave the French defender a little bump after the ball had gone out of play for a throw and Kounde reacted badly throwing the ball at the left back.

Kounde was very fortunate that his mistake didn't cost his team, with Julen Lopetegui's side somewhat hanging on to the draw by the end of the match.

Ousmane Dembele might have earned all three points for the visitors late on, but Kounde's international teammate hit the woodwork instead.

It could in theory have been the defenders last act as a Sevilla player, with the team not playing until the January transfer window opens, and he'll have a ban to contend with.

It looked like the 23-year-old was set to move to Chelsea in the summer but the Spanish side held out for his £68 million release clause, something the player wasn't happy with.

Manchester United have also been linked with the player, who can play right back as well as centre back, in the past and even though they signed Raphael Varane in the summer could be interested in the future.

A win would have taken Barca into the top four but they remain two point below it, and 10 behind their opponents on Tuesday, and a whopping 15 behind league leaders Real Madrid.

Barca scorer Araujo felt the move was a step in the direction, saying, "It’s a step forward. We played a great game against a great rival and on their pitch.

"We were superior, especially in the second half. Their goal was to their credit, they did very well. It’s a shame because we wanted to win."
