There are growing fears that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could be ‘forced’ to sell Wrexham.

Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, 47, completed their takeover of Wrexham when the Red Dragons were competing in the National League – the fifth tier of English football – back in February 2021.

They have since overseen back-to-back promotions and will once again be competing for promotion this season – the Welsh side are currently third in League One after 37 matches.

And the club’s cause has been helped by the duo’s reported combined net worth of $400m (£309m).

Several former Premier League players have joined the side in recent years with James McClean, Matty James, Jay Rodriguez and Steven Fletcher all featuring for Phil Parkinson’s team.

If they continue to progress with the same trajectory they could reach the top flight by 2026 – however former England international Darren Bent has issued a warning to the owners about the finances involved with running a Premier League club.

"I know they're worth loads, like 400 million, but when does that become not enough?” Bent told talkSPORT.

“400 million in real-life terms is a ridiculous amount of money, like stupid wealth. If they get to the Championship, then all of a sudden, 400 million is still doable, but in the Premier League, it's nothing. I hope they don't do that (sell the club) after getting them all the way up because how are they going to survive without them?"

Although Wrexham will be keen to keep their feet on the ground, co-owner Reynolds has already given his thoughts on the Red Dragons potentially playing in the Premier League over the next decade.

“I mean, 10 years from now… we would be morons to not want to see this club in the Premier League but to also be unique in that everything about the place has stayed true to what it originally was – I mean, that’s kind of the perfect scenario,” said Reynolds when speaking on Men in Blazers.

“I remember Rob early on, he was like ‘of course we want to go to the Premier League’, and it eventually got into my cells… hell yes we want that, why wouldn’t we want that?" Reynolds added.

"Who wouldn’t want that? And we can kind of see it, you know?”

Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club for around £2m but it is now worth £100m, according Bloomberg.
