Roy Keane Slams Michael Carrick's Wife for Having 'Big Mouth' as Feud Reignited

The Irishman did not mince his words when speaking about the Man United head coach's wife.

Roy Keane aimed a brutal dig at Michael Carrick’s wife during a recent episode of Stick to Football and appeared to reignite a historic feud.

Carrick was a topic of discussion on this week’s episode of the podcast featuring Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott, and Keane.

Of course, Carrick was appointed as Manchester United head coach on Tuesday (January 13), following Ruben Amorim’s sacking on January 5.

The former midfielder previously played 464 times for the Red Devils, a period in which he helped the side win five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Carrick played alongside Carragher with England, and Neville with both United and England, with the pair both wishing him the best in his new role.

However, the same can’t be said for Keane.

Keane and Carrick never played together at United, but were once embroiled in a spat back in 2014.

Following United’s 2-0 defeat away at Olympiacos in the Champions League, Keane criticised Carrick’s post-match interview as well as his performance, describing both as “flat”.

Carrick’s wife Lisa, then posted on Twitter – now X – and wrote: “Roy Keane what a ****, says anything to provoke a reaction."

The tweet was swiftly deleted, with Lisa apologising for the remark.

"Deleted my tweet... Emotions got the better of me,” she wrote.

However, over 11 years on, Keane could not help but aim another dig at the now-United head coach’s wife.

When speaking about the possible impact the former Middlesbrough boss could have on the current United team, Keane quipped: “His wife can always come in [if Carrick doesn't do well], ‘cause she’s got a bit of a big mouth sometimes. She's probably doing the team talk."

But Keane did not stop there and also criticised Carrick’s backroom staff appointments after Jonathan Woodgate landed the assistant coaches role while Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion were also named as part of the management team.

"He's on the beach two weeks ago, Jonny Evans," Keane said. "Jonny Evans leaves Man United four or five weeks ago as a loans manager and then Darren Fletcher gives him a job, strangely enough gives him a job.

"He has two games, Fletch goes and Carrick gives him a job, great isn't it. We should all go to Barbados for a week. You're on about getting your coaching staff in, you're praising one of them saying he's experienced and then we just let the other two go, Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans.

"What has Jonny Evans done to be a coach of Man United's first team? He left the job four weeks ago - loans manager, and ironically comes back working with the first team. That's a big step up, isn't it?"

Carrick’s first game in charge of United takes place on Saturday (January 17), with the Red Devils hosting rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford. And as ever, Keane will no doubt be watching closely.
